I’d heard about Odd Burger for a while but never actually got around to trying it. You know how it is, one of those places you keep meaning to check out, but somehow, you always end up grabbing something familiar instead.

Well, the other day, I was running around trying to get a million things done (typical dad life), and I needed a quick bite. Instead of my usual go-to, I figured, why not finally see what the hype is about?

Odd Burger has been around for a while, starting in Canada and growing from there. Maybe that’s why I kept putting it off, something about it felt familiar like I already knew what to expect.

But, as I found out, I was totally wrong. Turns out, this place has its own thing going on, and I’m kinda mad at myself for waiting so long to check it out. Especially becuase it’s so close to me in downtown Calgary.

Why Eating Vegan Once a Week is a Win

Does not look vegan!

Look, I’m not here to tell you to go full vegan overnight. But swapping out meat for a plant-based meal every now and then? That’s an easy win. First off, it’s a great way to mix up your diet. Even if you’re not vegan, eating more plant-based meals means more variety, and let’s be real, sometimes a break from heavy, greasy fast food just feels good.

Then there’s the environmental side. A single plant-based meal saves a whole lot of water and reduces carbon emissions compared to a meat-based one. And if you’re into the whole “feel-good” aspect, skipping meat once a week is an easy way to make a small impact without completely changing your lifestyle.

Plus, places like Odd Burger make it super easy. You don’t have to cook some complicated lentil dish at home, just grab a burger that tastes amazing and happens to be plant-based. Simple.

Is Odd Burger Vegan?

Yep, Odd Burger is fully vegan, no meat, no dairy, no animal products at all. Just straight-up plant-based fast food that doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not. They’re not out here preaching or making you feel bad about your food choices, they happen to make really good burgers that are vegan.

But beyond the food, they’ve been pretty involved in the whole plant-based movement. Over the years, they’ve supported vegan charities, farm sanctuaries, and other groups that align with their mission.

It’s not something they shove in your face, but it’s cool to know that they care about more than just selling burgers. Whether you’re fully vegan, thinking about cutting back on meat, or just in the mood for a good burger that won’t leave you feeling weighed down, Odd Burger’s got something for you.

Their goal is simple, make seriously good food from scratch using plant-based, minimally processed, and sustainable ingredients. The kind of food that’s better for people and the planet without sacrificing flavor.

What’s on the Menu?

Come hungry and leave happy!

Odd Burger has a solid lineup of plant-based burgers, and they don’t mess around when it comes to flavor. Here’s what you can expect:

🍔 Famous Burger – The one that put them on the map. House-made smash patties, classic toppings, and that fast-food magic that hits just right.

👑 Vopper – A burger fit for royalty. Comes with its smoky bacUn, a smashed patty, and a perfect balance of toppings.

🧀 BacUn Famous Melt – Imagine the Famous Burger, but with dairy-free cheese, grilled onions, and crispy bacUn. Some say it’s even better than the original.

🥪 Preposterous Burger – A double smash patty burger that’s so “meaty” you might do a double take. Yes, it’s all plants. No, you won’t believe it.

🔥 Pulled Jack – A BBQ pulled ‘pork’ sandwich, but make it jackfruit. Smoky, saucy, and surprisingly addictive.

🍔 Classic Burger – Simple, straightforward, and always a good choice. Smash patty, ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, sometimes less is more.

And of course, the menu doesn’t stop at burgers. They’ve also got:

🥞 Breakfast – Because who doesn’t love breakfast sandwiches and hash browns?

🍗 ChickUN – Crispy, plant-based, and perfect for when you’re in the mood for something other than a burger.

🥗 Salads & Wraps – If you’re feeling like something a little lighter but still packed with flavor.

🍟 Sides – Think Tater Tots, fries, and other crispy goodness.

🍰 Desserts & Shakes – Because no fast-food meal is complete without a little something sweet.

🥤 Beverages – From classic sodas to plant-based milkshakes.

🌱 Gluten-Friendly Options – More burgers, sandwiches, and sides, minus the gluten.

What I think about Odd Burger Calgary

I walked in with an open mind, but after the first bite, I totally got why people love this place. Someone mentioned they’re not vegan but still think the burgers taste great, and I have to agree. The flavors are solid, and it doesn’t feel like something’s missing. It’s just a good burger, plain and simple.

The orange shake stood out too. It has that creamy, citrusy thing going on, kind of like an old-school creamsicle. Definitely worth trying. The strawberry milkshake was another surprise. Instead of syrup, it’s made with real fruit, and you can actually taste the little bits of strawberry. The texture was perfect.

I also saw a review about the tzatziki in their wrap, and I didn’t expect to be thinking about tzatziki from a vegan burger spot, but here we are. It’s fresh, tangy, and works really well with their seitan. If you’re picky about plant-based meats, their seitan is pretty good. Maybe not the best I’ve ever had, but I’d give it an eight out of ten. The burgers, though, are basically perfect.

A lot of people compare Odd Burger to fast food chains like McDonald’s or Burger King, and that’s exactly how it feels. It’s familiar, comforting, and checks all the boxes for a classic fast food craving, just without the animal products.

The fries deserve a mention too. They’re crispy, salty, and just really well done. Would I drive an hour just to eat here? Absolutely.*

Who Would Love This Place?

Mouth watering!

I think Odd Burger works for pretty much anyone. If you're vegan, obviously, it’s a solid spot. But even if you’re not, it still hits that classic fast-food craving without feeling like a compromise.

I’ve had plant-based burgers before that tasted like... well, disappointment. But these? These actually feel like real, satisfying burgers. I’d even say they’re a great intro for someone who’s skeptical about vegan fast food.

Would kids like it? Probably depends on the kid. If they’re the type that just wants their food to taste like what they already know, the Classic Burger is a safe bet.

But if they’re a little more adventurous, the Famous Burger or Vopper might be fun for them to try. And of course, fries and milkshakes are always an easy win.

Would I Go Back?

Yeah, 100%. I wouldn’t say I’m about to become a regular or anything, but if I’m in the area and craving a burger, I’d totally stop by again. The thing that surprised me most was how much it actually felt like fast food, not in a bad, greasy way, but in a way that it’s comforting, familiar, and just good.

If I had to pick one thing to recommend? The Famous Burger is probably the safest bet, but if you’re into smoky flavors, the BacUn Famous Melt is the way to go. And definitely grab a shake, personally, I’m still thinking about that orange one.

Oh, and if you’re going during peak hours, maybe give yourself a little extra time. It’s not painfully slow or anything, but it’s not McDonald’s-level fast either. Worth it, though.
