Hey there fellow tired parents! Once September rolls around, life in our house goes from mildly chaotic to full-blown survival mode. School’s back, activities ramp up, and suddenly, we’re juggling pickups, drop-offs, and a calendar that looks like a game of Tetris.

The kids have their sports and clubs, my husband and I are balancing work and parenting, and of course, everyone still expects to be fed. Every. Single. Day.

It’s way too easy to fall into the takeout trap or just grab whatever is fastest, even if it’s not the healthiest option. But I’ve learned that a little bit of planning can save us from the mealtime madness.

If your family’s anything like ours, meal prepping can be the perfect solution. You don’t have to go full meal-prep influencer mode, but having some high-protein, ready-to-go meals and snacks can make life way easier, and keep everyone from turning into a hangry tornado. Why Meal Prepping Was Never My Thing

I’ll be honest, meal prepping has never been my superpower. I’ve dabbled in it, sure, but I’ve never been the person with a week’s worth of perfectly portioned meals lined up in matching containers. And, well, that lack of planning definitely shows.

But honestly, even just setting aside a little time each week to get ahead can make a huge difference. Less scrambling, more healthy eating, and way fewer kitchen disasters. Sounds like a win to me.

Not all recipes are meal-prep friendly, and I’ve definitely learned that the hard way (looking at you, soggy salads and weirdly textured leftovers).

My technique is choosing meals that can be prepped in advance without losing their flavor or texture. Think baked goods, overnight oats, casseroles, and anything that reheats well.

  3. Breakfast Burritos to Go – Make a big batch, wrap them in foil, and store them in the fridge. When hungry, just heat one and you’ve got a solid, grab-and-go meal.
  4. Slow Cooker Chili – The ultimate hands-off dinner. Dump everything in, let the slow cooker do its thing, and suddenly you have a warm, hearty chili to use all week.
  5. Italian Meatball Soup – This one freezes beautifully, so I like to portion it out in containers. When I need a quick meal, I just thaw and reheat, boom, dinner’s ready.
  6. Baked Oatmeal with Berries – Individual portions of this bake can go straight into the fridge or freezer. A quick microwave reheat and breakfast is served.
  7. Black Beans and Rice – Simple, cheap, and endlessly useful. I make a big batch and use it for burritos, rice bowls, and last-minute taco nights.
  8. Chickpea Salad – A fresh, protein-packed side that works with anything, grilled chicken, burgers, or even just a fork straight from the container.
